Chakrasana, the Sanskrit word for "wheel pose", is the inspiration for Gina Dominique’s "Chakrasana Series" paintings. In yoga asana practice, to realize chakrasana, a back-bend or back roll is executed. Chakrasana, known as Urdhva Dhanurasana in Ashtanga Yoga, is said to strengthen your physical and mental well being. Chakrasana also aligns the body's seven main chakras or energy centers. They are Muladhara (the Root Chakra), located at the base of the spine, Svadhisthana (the Sacral Chakra), Manipura (the Navel Chakra), Anahata (the Heart Chakra), Vishuddha (the Throat Chakra), Ajna (the Third-Eye Chakra) and Sahasrara (the Crown Chakra), which are the subject of her 2017-2018 "Chakra Paintings" portfolio. Like that series, these smaller scale paintings give the viewer opportunities for individual or a collective visual meditative experience.
