This is the 2nd consecutive January that I attended a 3-day remote writing retreat with faculty members, hosted by a few from my home institution Lehman College. It was productive this year in that I wrote 4,000 more words in my dissertation, added several more images, and refined the formatting...a hundred more times. Here is copy of the retreat schedule with a list of what I did each day:
Day 1- Tuesday, January 16
· 10:00-10:30- Overview, Ice-breaker, Breakout Room Groups
MY PLAN: Tue-Wed-Thu- Write Chap 4- Results & Discussion- analyze images
· 10:30-12:30- Small group session 1
· 12:30-1:30- Lunch/Presentation
· 1:30-3:30- Small group session 2
· 3:30-3:45pm- Afternoon Break
· 3:45-5:45pm- Small group session 3
· 5:45-6:00pm- Wrap-up
What I actually worked on:
· Reorganized PhD files… at least once per day for weeks now.
· Expanded Chap 1- Intro, wrote Intro to Intro
· Rewrote Chap 4- Results & Discussion, Intro segment… one more time
· Downloaded QDA ATLAS 5-day free-trail and…
· Uploaded to ATLAS all 10 Artist Interviews
Day 2- Wednesday, January 17
· 10:15-10:30am- Welcome, Overview, Breakout Room Groups
MY PLAN: Wed- Write Chap 4- Results & Discussion- analyze images
· 10:30-12:30pm- Small group session
· 12:30-1:30pm- Lunch/Networking (Icebreaker- Research Buzz)
· 1:30-3:30pm- Small group session
· 3:30-3:45pm- Afternoon Break
· 3:45-5:45pm- Small group session
· 5:45-6:00pm- Wrap-up
What I actually worked on:
· Expanded what is now 4 paragraphs or a 500-word Intro to Chap 4- Results & Discussion
· Updated images list to include all added diagrams and plans
· Wrote 2 pages of Chap 3- Research Methods & Tools on Studio Praxis works-in-progress, then I accidentally deleted them... ugh...totally wasted 2 hours.
· Wrote 2 pages on a different section of Chap 3- Research Methods & Tools
Day 3- Thursday, January 18
· 10:00-10:15am- Welcome, Overview, Breakout Room Groups
MY PLAN: Thu- Write in Chap 3- Research Methods, and Ch. 4- Results & Discussion
· 10:15-12:15pm- Small group session
· 12:15-12:30pm- Break
o 12:30-2:00pm- Lunch/Presentation (Every Semester Needs a Plan)
o 2:00-4:00pm- Small group session
o 4:00-4:15pm- Afternoon Break
o 4:15-5:00pm- Closing Session/Celebrations
What I actually worked on:
· Refined Chap 1- Intro revisions
· Created a semester long Research plan
NOTE: I started the retreat having written just over 9000 on my dissertation/exegesis/thesis, and by the end of the week I had 13,000 words written. This means that I'm one third of the way towards completing it. Yay.
