Oct 2022-Dissertation Research

Since completing the 10 artist interviews that I will weave into my dissertation/thesis earlier this month, I have added this and other research methods to my ChromaTheory: On Abstract Painting, Color and Otherness Venn diagram model. I conceived the initial model during the summer, and have been fixating on it since. I’ve expanded it as I continue my dissertation reading, note-taking, and document construction. The diagram associated with this post is about my 10th model. I like that it is a basic primary palette, 3 oval diagram, contains all of the philosophies, methodologies, and creative research methods I have used to date.
Along with that fixation, I have also reworked my dissertation Intro, essay/chapter topics many times. At the moment, I am planning on about 7 essays, each approximately 5,000 words long, with titles and subtitles such as:
  1. Chromosphere: An Introduction

  2. Chromogogy: on Abstract Painting and Formal Color

  3. Chromographic: on Abstract Painting, Color & Iconography

  4. ColorCoded: on Abstract Painting, Color & Gender

  5. Chromoclass: on Abstract Painting, Color & Socioeconomics

  6. Chromassimilated: on Abstract Painting, Color, Race & Ethnicity

  7. Chromantics: on Abstract Painting, Color & Language

  8. Chromanalysis: on Abstract Painting, Color & Psychoanalysis
