TT PhD NOVEMBER SESSION- PUBLIC TALK
EMOTIONAL LANDSCAPES - CONSTRUCTION OF A SPATIAL IMAGINARY
DIOGO PASSARINHO
I attended the Transart November 25, 2023 PhD Public Talk by Diogo Passarinho. I was impressed with his work, and while I have seen images and reviews of artists that Passarinho collaborates with, i.e., Laure Prouvosts' installations, until I heard him speak and saw slideshow images depicting his projects, I was unaware that he was effectively behind those particular renown artworks. I found it revalatory to learn that Prouvost works with an architectural designer, specifically with Passarinho, to realize their somewhat surreal, somewhat dystopic, fantasy multimedia installations. His work and collaborations are genius, and he humbly regards and describes what he does as work in-service to his collaborators' creative ideas.
"We try to design spaces that live in our memories and most likely will outlive the short life expectancies of some projects. Something you saw as a child, that you read in a book, listened to in a club, or saw in a movie is most likely to be used as abstract references and starting points to develop a space. Confusion, Disorientation, Control, Love, Ambiguity, Climax, Desperation, are probably narratives that you will encounter in one of the studio’s projects and our goal is, together with different practitioners, to try to increase the lexicon of feelings we can use and explore."
